Periodically an organization must reflect on who it is and what it has accomplished to better understand where it is going. We typically begin this reflection on the first meeting of the New Year. Since 1969, the Centre Region Council of Governments (COG) has strived to improve the quality of life of the citizens of the Centre Region. COG coordinates the efforts of a volunteer network of six local governments (the Townships of College, Ferguson, Halfmoon, Harris and Patton, and the Borough of State College). These efforts provide services to their citizens in an efficient and effective manner particularly in the areas of emergency management, fire protection, library services, parks and recreation, regional planning, and safety and code inspections. Last year was productive for the COG in accomplishing many work tasks for its member municipalities. Congratulations to you, the elected officials, and to those who keep us organized — the municipal managers, Jim Steff, and the COG staff, for a job well done. Let’s give our managers and staffs a round of applause.

These
are exciting times for the municipalities and the Centre Region COG. Current and
former elected officials are to be commended for working together to find shared
solutions to common problems.
