A pandemic, by definition, occurs in multiple localities, potentially nationwide and nearly simultaneously.  Planning for such an event is an enormous undertaking involving the medical community, public safety arena, and government at all levels.  While these agencies prepare, you might ask what you can do.  First, educate yourself; second, practice basic hygiene; and third, protect yourself against the flu by getting the flu vaccination offered each year.
