BULK WASTE COLLECTIONS

***The next Bulk Waste Collection week will be the Fall collection, which runs from
Monday, October 13 to Friday, October 17, 2008  and will be on your normal day of service.***

For detailed Bulk Waste information, including a list of what will and will not be collected, please click here.

The rates paid by residential customers in the Regional Refuse and Recycling Program include a free bulk waste collection each Spring and again in the Autumn.  VEOLIA Environmental Services will collect old furniture, bedding, carpeting, appliances, and tires.  Remember to place all items at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your regular collection day.

PLEASE FOLLOW THESE IMPORTANT GUIDELINES:

  • Items must be properly prepared – carpeting should be dry, tied, and cut into 4 foot (max) lengths; tires must be removed from rims; doors must be removed from appliances; glass panes must be taped or boxed; wood/lumber must be cut to 6 foot (max) lengths and tied into bundles

  • Appliances and tires are recycled – please keep them separate from the main trash pile

  • There is a limit of 10 tires (20 inch maximum diameter; rims removed) per household

  • There is a limit of 1 of each type of appliance per household – duplicate appliances will not be removed without prior authorization from the program administrator

The following items will be collected:  furniture, bedding, appliances (see information above), tires (see information above), bundled old lumber/homeowner-generated construction materials (see information above), carpeting (see information above), other oversized items too large to containerize.

The following items will NOT be collected:  Contractor-generated materials, leaves, grass, soil/dirt, concrete, bricks, stones, railroad ties, propane tanks, liquid paints and solvents, batteries, dead animals, unprepared glass panes, unbundled wood, piles of loose debris or construction materials, tires other than passenger car tires (racing, tractor, etc), items too large or too heavy for 2 workers to lift, items not prepared as per the above guidelines.

If you have items in the "NO" Category, please call the Centre County Solid Waste Authority at (814) 238-7005 to learn more about your alternative disposal options.

ALL ITEMS THAT ARE ABLE TO BE CANNED/BAGGED MUST BE PLACED IN A BAG OR CAN, OR THEY WILL NOT BE COLLECTED.  LOOSE PILES OF DEBRIS WILL NOT BE COLLECTED, AS SUCH ITEMS ARE CONSIDERED TO BE REGULAR TRASH, NOT BULK TRASH.

SPECIAL NOTES:

  • Residents should take care not to leave items they do not want to be discarded within 5 feet of the refuse pile
  • Some bulk items will be collected by a separate truck
  • This collection is NOT for State College Borough residents – Borough residents may refer questions about bulk waste pick-ups to the State College Public Works Department at (814) 234-7135
  • This collection is NOT for multi-family complexes using trash dumpsters – such residents should contact their private hauler (phone number should be listed on the complex trash dumpster)
  • Donations of useable household goods are welcomed at any of the following:  CentrePeace (814) 353-9081; Interfaith Mission (814) 234-7731; St. Vincent DePaul Society (814) 867-3131
  • This service is provided at no additional cost; residents who miss the collection may arrange a pick-up with VEOLIA Environmental Services (formerly Onyx Waste Services) for a fee.

See below for restrictions on appliances and tires. No loose piles of debris or construction material will be removed; such material must be bundled.  Glass panes will not be accepted unless properly taped or contained in a sealed box.  Due to truck restrictions, no metal or wood items in excess of 6 feet in length can be accepted.  Residents are also encouraged to donate usable items to local charities.

Appliances and Tires:

Customers are limited to disposing of ten (10) tires per bulk waste collection.  Tires must be passenger car-sized tires only, and must be removed from rims.

Customers are limited to disposing of one (1) of each type of household appliance per bulk waste collection.  For example, a customer may dispose of one refrigerator, one water heater, and one stove all during the same bulk waste collection, but may not dispose of 2 or more of any of those appliances at once.  Only one of each type of appliance will be collected.  Appliance doors must be removed prior to being placed curbside.
